In celebration of Secret Society’s 20th anniversary as a band, we are hitting the road this fall, with a couple of dates in the Midwest and West. On Wednesday, October 1, we’ll be appearing at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium, in Des Moines, Iowa. Known in the 1920’s as “Sin City on the Prairie,” Des Moines has some surprising connections to a number of jazz luminaries, including Thad Jones, who led bands at the Sepia Club prior to joining Count Basie.
Then on Saturday, October 4, we’ll be at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts in Denver, Colorado. Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood was a jazz hotbed in the 1930s, hosting touring artists like Duke Ellington and Billie Holliday, along with local legends like bassist Charlie Burrell.
My co-conspirators and I will also be giving workshops and masterclasses for the students at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, whose jazz department is thriving under the estimable leadership of my friend and colleague, Remy Le Beouf.
This is the first time Secret Society will be making it out to Iowa and Colorado. If you are within striking distance, we would love for you to join us!
