Kay Double You

JJQ with KW

Ethan Iverson asked me to contribute a guest post to his Do The Math blog: a memorial for Kenny Wheeler, who has been a huge and enduring influence. (My former piano teacher, Jeff Johnston, makes a cameo appearance.) I also asked Ingrid Jensen to contribute her thoughts on Kenny’s role in her trumpet-playing life. By way of postscript, I offer my take on the incredible chorale that opens “The Sweet Time Suite” (Music for Large and Small Ensembles).
