Composer in Residence meets Artist in Residence: Pianist Kirill Gerstein is a guest musician with Frankfurt Radio Symphony. Together with Darcy James Argue, he sheds new light on the rarely performed original version of Gershwin’s legendary “Rhapsody in Blue.” On this night, we take a musical journey back to 1924, when jazz arrived in New York: Alongside Gershwin, Ellington, Armstrong, and Henderson shaped the city! In the second part of the evening, we contrast these pieces with modern works by Darcy and Makoto Ozone.
